Smelter (6-2, 227) was originally drafted by the 49ers in the fourth round (132nd overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. After spending his entire rookie season on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List, he was waived from the team on Sept. 3, 2016 and then signed to the practice squad on Oct. 16.

Campbell (6-2, 206) originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2015. After spending his entire rookie season on the team's practice squad, he signed a reserve/future contract with San Francisco on Jan. 5, 2016, spent training camp with the team and was later waived on Aug. 27.

Patton (6-0, 204) started in each of the team's first 14 games this season, which was a career high, and registered career highs in both receptions (37) and receiving yards (408).
