Quinton Dial Brings Versatility

**

Alabama defensive tackle Quinton Dial brings another versatile presence to the San Francisco 49ers defensive line. With the No. 157 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the 49ers took the two-time BCS champions. Check out his comments with the media after being drafted by the 49ers. Hey Quinton, how you doing?**"I'm pretty good, how you doing?"

Did you have any inkling the 49ers were interested in you?"I took a visit, but I wasn't really sure where I would end up. But, I think San Francisco is a great place for me. I'm really excited and blessed to have the opportunity to be on a great team."

Are you familiar at all with some of the defensive linemen on this team?"Well, I watched a little pro ball when I was in college and I think they have a great defensive line and for me coming out of college and add a little depth to the system. I think it's going to be a great opportunity for me."

How do you think you fit in with what they do defensively?"Yes sir. I think I fit in pretty good with it."

And how so?"I think I'm a versatile defensive lineman that can play multiple positions in any situation. Wherever they need me I'll just come in and work hard and do what I can do to help the team."

Can you play over the nose and do different 3, 5, 0 techniques, that kind of thing?"Yes sir."

Did you do all that at Alabama?"Yes sir. I played the 3, 5, 0, 6. I played pretty much the whole defensive line."

What was your base defense at Alabama?"It was a 3-down front."
What do you think your strengths are as a player?"I think I have pretty good ability to stop the run. As always, there's no complete football player and you're always going to have areas you need to work on. But, I think I'm pretty good against the run."

Who did you meet with when you came out here?"I met with the whole coaching staff and the general manager."

Did you see any players while you were here?"I didn't see anybody."

Looking forward to meeting anybody?"I'm looking forward to meeting my team and just getting ready to get to work."

You'll be coming out here in a couple of weeks for the minicamp?"Yeah, I'll be out there in a few weeks."

What happened with your sack in the SEC Championship Game? I guess it wasn't a sack, but there was a situation where you hit the quarterback and it might have been late. What happened there?"Well, the quarterback threw an interception and the guy that intercepted the ball was running down the sideline and the quarterback was running toward the play. So, I just threw a block and hit the quarterback, and everybody made a big deal about it. That was what I was taught to do, is take out anybody I can see. So, I saw the opportunity and took it."

One of your new teammates is RB Marcus Lattimore. Did you play against him in college? And do you have any memories of tackling him?"I didn't play against him in college, I was a JUCO transfer."
