Marquise Goodwin OUT vs. Lions, Dante Pettis to Make First NFL Start

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that Marquise Goodwin (quad) will not play in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. Goodwin injured his quad in the first half of last Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings and didn't practiced all week.

That means Dante Pettis will step in and make his first career start. Pettis caught two passes for 61 yards (on five targets) in his NFL debut last Sunday, including a 22-yard touchdown catch for his career score. I'd expect to see Jimmy Garoppolo call Pettis' number quite a bit against the Lions. Goodwin's injury also means that Richie James will be active on gameday for the first time in his career.

Here's the rest of the 49ers Week 2 injury report.

Out: Marquise Goodwin (quad), Joshua Garnett (foot) and Erik Magnuson (hamstring).

Questionable: Adrian Colbert (hamstring), Mike Person (foot) and Malcolm Smith (hamstring).

If Person is unable to go, undrafted rookie Najee Toran will start at right guard. Elijah Lee is also looking at his first career start if Smith can't play.
