Colin Kaepernick: I Didn't Play Well Tonight

Thursday night's 19-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks saw a couple of firsts for Colin Kaepernick and The San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers did not score a touchdown for the first time in 2014.

It was also the first time Kaepernick failed to throw a touchdown pass in 18 consecutive starts. A 19th touchdown would have given him sole possesion of the franchise record. Instead, he'll have to share the honor with Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young.

That's pretty much where the pleasantries stop for Kaepernick on this night.

The 49ers quarterback completed 16-of-29 passes for 121 yards with two interceptions against the Seattle Seahawks. He also posted a quarterback rating of 36.7.

Kaepernick was fairly blunt with his own personal evaluation.

"I didn't play well tonight," Kaepernick said. "If your quarterback doesn't play well, it's going to be hard for you to win games."

The 49ers offense trailed throughout the Thanksgiving matchup. Kaepernick was sacked four times, and he never was able to establish a rhythm with his targets. San Francisco averaged 3.2 yards per play and turned the ball over three times, two of which were from Kaepernick interceptions.

"They were bad throws," the 49ers signal-caller said of the two passes intercepted by Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. "Our receivers won. I didn't make the throw on those. Those were my fault."

Kaepernick totaled 55 passing yards in the first half. When Seattle mounted a 16-pount lead in the third quarter, Kaepernick led the 49ers on a 12-play, 59-yard scoring drive. But when San Francisco needed a touchdown to make it a game, the offensive unit could only muster a 40-yard Phil Dawson field goal.

Now that the 49ers have fallen to 7-5, Kaepernick knows what it's going to take to reach the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season.

Four victories, and help from other teams in the Wild Card hunt.

"We have to win out in order to have a shot to get into the playoffs," Kaepernick said.
