Anquan Boldin to Host First Bay Area Charity Event

Want to be served a double-cut filet mignon by a 49ers player?

Anquan Boldin and some of his San Francisco teammates will don aprons on Monday, Nov. 11 at Morton's The Steakhouse in San Jose for Boldin's Q81 foundation.

"It's an opportunity for fans to come up close and personal with the guys that they cheer for on Sundays," Boldin said recently, "and the guys that they cheer for will be serving them as opposed to them serving the players."

The proceeds from the night's cocktail reception, silent auction and four-course dinner will go toward the charity's good works in the Bay Area and beyond.

The 11-year veteran – and first-year 49ers wideout – said he plans to put on a Thanksgiving turkey drive and a Christmas shopping spree both here in Northern California and back home in Florida. During his Thanksgiving event in 2012, Boldin – as well as his brother and aunt, both chefs – served 300-plus families.

Boldin's non-profit has also supported after-school activities like athletics, summer enrichment programs and scholarships for single parents and senior citizens. "It's near and dear to me," Boldin said of his philanthropic work. "I come from a less fortunate area in Florida, a place where there's not much opportunity. One of my goals is always to give back... And I've been blessed enough to give back."

Boldin, who still resides in Florida, returns to his old Pahokee neighborhood annually. He said he wants to show that people can make it out of the community but still return to help improve it.

"Where I grew up is a very underprivileged area," said Boldin, who went without programs like Pop Warner football. "I think the average income for each household is less than $20,00 per year. I didn't know I was poor growing up because everybody else around me was in the same situation.

"I want to make sure the kids growing up now don't have to go through the same things that I had to."
