Observations
1. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said his unit still goes through "Takeaway Thursday" drills to practice forcing turnovers. The 49ers defense ranks 13th in the NFL with six interceptions and 14th with six forced fumbles through Week 8.
- Reinforcement Glenn Dorsey, who rejoined his team at practice this week, was sporting a San Francisco Giants hat in front of his locker stall. He called the cap "dingy" because he's been wearing it out the last three months.
- Dorsey, who tore his biceps muscle on Aug. 1, said that he is going through individual drills at practice. He also said that he and incument nose tackle Ian Williams have the versatility to play the defensive tackle positions once they're on the active roster together.
- Offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who is not generally one to make proclomations, left an inch between his thumb and index finger when he raised his right hand and said, "When I say more consistency, it's that close." Roman was asked about his offensive line, which has overcome multiple injuries. He is confident in the newest player to join the group, rookie center Marcus Martin.
- Roman said that second-year running back Marcus Lattimore would be getting help with his pass-blocking technique from the right resource. "We've got the man for the job, one of the greatest cut-blockers in the history of the National Football League, (running backs coach) Tom Rathman." More on Lattimore's comeback from injury here.
- Fangio said defensive back Jimmie Ward was further along in his recovery than fellow corners Tramaine Brock and Chris Culliver. Full injury report here.
- Wideout Stevie Johnson has the third-most catches (25) on the team. Does he get frustrated that he doesn't see the ball come his way more often? "It's not like there's a bunch of pansies in front me," he told reporters, referencing capable teammates Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Brandon Lloyd.
