49ers Sign LB Korey Toomer

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday they have signed linebacker Korey Toomer to a one-year deal.

Toomer (6-2, 235) was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round (154th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. He has spent time with the Seahawks (2012-13), Dallas Cowboys (2014), St. Louis Rams (2014), Oakland Raiders (2015) and San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2016-17). Toomer has appeared in 46 games (16 starts) and registered 115 tackles, 2.0 sacks, one interception (which he returned for a touchdown), five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four passes defensed, while adding 14 special teams tackles. In 2017, he played in a career-high 15 games (eight starts) and tallied 46 tackles, 1.0 sack, one interception, two forced fumbles and three passes defensed.

"We're excited to add a talented player like Korey to our defensive unit," said 49ers General Manager John Lynch. "Korey is a good fit for the 'stack linebacker' position in our scheme and he provides our team another good football player with plenty of NFL experience in similar systems."

A 29-year-old native of Las Vegas, NV, Toomer played collegiately at the University of Idaho where he was named team MVP as senior in 2011 after recording 68 tackles along with team-high 4.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.
