49ers Re-sign LB Michael Wilhoite to One-year Deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday they have re-signed linebacker Michael Wilhoite to a one-year deal.

Wilhoite (6-0, 240) started all 12 games in which he appeared in 2015 and registered 86 tackles, one interception and one pass defensed. Throughout his four-year career, he has appeared in 49 games (30 starts) and recorded 231 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble and eight passes defensed.

Wilhoite began his professional career with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL in 2011 before being signed to the 49ers practice squad later that year. He spent 12 weeks on the 49ers practice squad in 2012 and was later promoted to the active roster for the final five games of the regular season. In 2013, he appeared in all 16 games (two starts) and tallied 24 tackles. Wilhoite started all 16 games in 2014 and notched career highs in tackles (121) and interceptions (two).

A 29-year-old native of Topeka, Kan., Wilhoite played collegiately at Washburn University where he registered 211 tackles and three interceptions for the Ichabods in 44 games (35 starts).
