Ryan VerNess is in his sixth season with the 49ers as a groundskeeping manager. “Big Red” as he is affectionately known, manages all aspects of turf maintenance for Levi’s Stadium and SAP Performance Facility.
VerNess served one season as an assistant groundkeeper with the Kansas City Chiefs before moving to the golf course side of turf management. He was named assistant superintendent at Spy Glass Hill, and worked with the Pebble Beach Company for over two years. VerNess then joined the Bayonet & Black Horse staff as golf course construction superintendent. He also spent four years as the director of golf course maintenance for Bayonet & Black Horse.
Originally from Stewartville, MN, Ryan graduated from University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He now resides in Sunnyvale and enjoys yoga, CrossFit and long runs in the country.
