As Co-Owners and Chief Impact Officers of the San Francisco 49ers, Jenna York and Mara York serve as the touchstone for the team's charitable endeavors. The York sisters serve as board members for the 49ers Foundation and help set the team's philanthropic strategies, playing a key role in growing the 49ers Foundation while homing in on educating and empowering Bay Area youth and beyond.
With the support of Jenna and Mara, the 49ers Foundation has invested over $80 million back into historically underserved communities in support of its commitment to remain faithful to the next generation. The 49ers Foundation shares their proceeds with legacy nonprofit partners 826 Valencia, African American Female Excellence, City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley, Fresh Lifelines for Youth, and the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute presented by ASML. As the hosts of Super Bowl LX, the 49ers Foundation, along with the Bay Area Host Committee and NFL Foundation, invested over $8.2 million back into the community through Bay Area Legacy Projects.
49ers EDU and 49ers PREP presented by San Francisco Federal Credit Union, both direct service programs of the Foundation, have reached over 600,000 students since their inceptions. 49ers EDU engages students in STEAM lessons through its innovative programming at no cost. 49ers PREP focuses on bringing health and wellness resources into underserved communities and promoting active lives through the game of football by offering free non-contact, co-ed football camps and clinics to kids of all ages.
During the opening of Levi'sÂź Stadium, Jenna and Mara played a key role in the launch of the Denise DeBartolo York Education Center, the first and only classroom located in a professional sports stadium. This space offers hands-on, project-based learning in a dynamic and technological environment. The programs, including STEM, are based on a common, core-aligned curriculum and tied into football so students can learn in a fun and unique way. During the COVID pandemic, the Yorks made the programs virtual and have continued to use that technology to reach more people in the Bay Area and beyond.
Under the guidance of Jenna and Mara, the 49ers championed girls flag football and played a major role in getting the state of California to recognize it as a varsity sport. 49ers PREP hosted girls flag football jamborees, events for female athletes at Levi'sÂź Stadium, and launched a player of the week program to celebrate female flag football players throughout the inaugural season. The 49ers provide a free flag football program for youth and have served over 500,000 student athletes domestically as well as in the team's international markets (UK, UAE, and Mexico).
In 2021, the 49ers Foundation established the Red & Gold Society, the NFL's first-ever annual giving program. This program has raised over $3 million, allowing the organization to reach more kids, through the classroom and through physical fitness, than ever before. With the help of Jenna and Mara, the 49ers were named the 2017 ESPN Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year and the 2017 Pop Warner Little Scholars Team of the Year. The 49ers were also previously recognized as Beyond Sport's 2015 Sport Team of the Year for Outstanding Philanthropic Sports Organization and the 2013 winner of the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Steve Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy.
Jenna and Mara also actively participate in the 49ers Community Relations department's initiatives such as the 49ers Community Tuesday program, ensuring impactful engagement with nonprofit organizations, player community award nominations like Walter Payton Man of the Year, Salute to Service Award, and 49ers Perry/Yonamine Award. In 2025, the team logged over 850 volunteer hours contributed by players, alumni, and families and supported over 2,800 children and 750 adults in the community.
In 2025, with Jenna and Mara's guidance, the 49ers Foundation created the Tony York Unity Award in honor of the family's beloved son and brother. The scholarship recognizes exceptional high school flag and tackle football players who demonstrate the same dedication to community service and power to inspire others that Tony exemplified throughout his life. Deeply passionate about giving back, Tony was an active supporter of the 49ers Foundation and carried a lifelong commitment to community service.
Outside of their work with the 49ers, Jenna and Mara are Founders and Managing Partners of JennaMarise Wines. Growing up surrounded by wine enthusiasts, particularly their maternal grandfather â a true wine connoisseur â they developed an early affection for wine that blossomed into a deep passion for winemaking.
Jenna and Mara learned the business from the ground up, gaining hands-on experience in everything from frontoffice operations and tasting rooms to production facilities and vineyards while working with renowned winemakers in California and Argentina. This lifelong dream of producing their own wines has come to fruition through JennaMarise.
