Holland enters his 10^th overall season with the 49ers and first as defensive run game coordinator. He has spent the previous nine seasons (2017-25) working with the linebackers unit, serving as linebackers coach (2021-25 & 2017) and run game specialist/outside linebackers coach (2018-20).

Holland has more than 30 years of NFL coaching experience and has served as a linebackers coach at multiple stops, including the Oakland Raiders (2012), Houston Texans (2006-10), Detroit Lions (2005), Seattle Seahawks (2001-02) and Green Bay Packers (1999). He has also served as the inside linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns (2016), a defensive assistant for the Lions (2003-04), assistant special teams/assistant strength & conditioning coach for the Seahawks (2000) and special teams coach for the Packers (1998). Holland began his coaching career with the Packers, serving as defensive quality control for three seasons (1995-97). Holland has also coached outside of the NFL ranks, serving as a linebackers coach with the Canadian Football League's BC Lions (2014-15) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (2013), as well as the United Football League's Virginia Destroyers (2011).

Prior to his coaching career, Holland played seven seasons (1987-93) with the Packers after originally being selected by the team in the second round (41^st overall) of the 1987 NFL Draft. A native of Hempstead, TX, Holland was a four-year letterman (1983-86) at Texas A&M University where he led the Aggies in tackles in each of his final three seasons.
