Jacob Webster is in his third season with the 49ers and his first as an offensive quality control coach. He spent the previous two seasons (2023-24) as a defensive quality control coach with San Francisco. Webster joined the 49ers after spending the 2022 season as a graduate assistant at the University of Wisconsin where he worked with the team's offense.
In 2024, Webster aided a 49ers defense that finished with the fifth-ranked passing defense (192.8) and the eighth-ranked total defense (317.4) in the NFL. He worked closely with the San Francisco linebackers, which was led by LB Fred Warner, who earned his fourth career Associated Press First-Team All-Pro and fourth career Pro Bowl selections after leading the team in tackles (131) and forced fumbles (four), while also registering 1.0 sack, seven passes defensed and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). Warner became one of three players in the NFL to register 130-or-more tackles in each of the previous four seasons (2021-24) and became the second linebacker in franchise history to register 10.0-or-more sacks and 10-or-more interceptions in a career (LB Keena Turner).
The 2023 San Francisco 49ers defense finished in the top-10 in the NFL in total defense (303.9) and rushing defense (89.7), tied for first in interceptions (22) and tied for the seventh-most sacks (48). Webster worked with Warner, who earned Associated Press First-Team All-Pro honors and was selected to the Pro Bowl Games after leading the linebacker unit with a team-high 132 tackles, 11 passes defensed, four interceptions, four forced fumbles and 2.5 sacks. LB Dre Greenlaw added 120 tackles, 1.5 sacks and four passes defensed.
In 2022, the Badgers offense averaged over 26.0 points per game, accumulated 4,727 total yards and 2,607 rushing yards. Badgers RB Braelon Allen eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the second-consecutive season after he registered 1,242 yards over 12 games, including seven games with at least 100 rushing yards. Badgers QB Graham Mertz started all 12 games and registered career-highs in yards (2,136) and touchdowns (19). Webster also worked extensively with OL Joe Tippmann, who was a second round (43rd overall) pick for the New York Jets in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Before his time at Wisconsin, Webster spent two years at the University of Missouri, serving as a defensive graduate assistant (2021) and an offensive volunteer (2020) for the program. During his first season with the Tigers, Webster worked with the quarterbacks and helped QB Connor Bazelak earn SEC Co-Freshman of the Year honors after he passed for 2,366 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games.
A native of Nashville, TN, Webster attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he played tight end for the school and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and management. His father was previously the general manager of the Tennessee Titans (2012-2015). Webster lives with his wife, Halli.
