Cameron Brown is in his third season as a 49ers defensive quality control coach. He joined the 49ers after two years (2021-22) at Division III Case Western Reserve University where he worked as an assistant defensive line coach (2021) and outside linebackers coach (2022).
In 2024, Brown assisted a 49ers defense that finished with the fifth-ranked passing defense (192.8) and the eighth-ranked total defense (317.4) in the NFL. He worked closely with the defensive line, which was led by DL Nick Bosa (9.0 sacks) and DL Leonard Floyd (8.5 sacks). Bosa added 52 tackles and his second career interception and earned the fifth Pro Bowl selection of his career. With Brown's help, DL Maliek Collins tied his career high with 5.0 sacks and DL Sam Okuayinonu registered a career-high 3.5 sacks.
The 2023 49ers defense finished in the top-10 in the NFL in total defense (303.9) and rushing defense (89.7), tied for first in interceptions (22) and tied for the seventh-most sacks (48). San Francisco's defensive line was anchored by Bosa (10.5 sacks), DL Javon Hargrave (7.0 sacks) and Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee DL Arik Armstead (5.0 sacks), with Bosa and Hargrave each selected to the Pro Bowl Games.
In 2022, Brown helped lead Case Western's defense to top-five finishes in total defense (288.1 yards allowed per game) and scoring defense (18.5 points per game) in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Both of these marks were improvements from the 2021 season that saw the Spartans allow 373.9 yards per game and 26.1 points per game. Brown began his coaching career at Case Western after spending one season (2020) playing defensive end for the Cineplexx Blue Devils in the Austrian Football League.
A native of Westlake, OH, Brown spent three seasons (2016-19) at Case Western, where he appeared in 43 games and registered 187 tackles, 34.5 sacks, 60 TFLs, one INT, 10 passes defensed, 12 FFs and five FRs. Brown holds the program records in career sacks (34.5) and single-season sacks (15.0) at Case Western. In 2018, Brown was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Year after posting 49 tackles, 15.0 sacks, 18.5 TFLs, six FFs, and one FR. He earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Case Western in 2020.
