Over the course of the season, we will feature a select photo from each game taken by a member of the San Francisco 49ers photography staff in our "Worth 1,000 Words" series.
Week 3 vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Pregame
Shot by: Terrell Lloyd, Senior Manager of Photography Services
Subject: Tyvis Powell
Location: Arrowhead Stadium
Lloyd: "I act as a fly on the wall in the locker room before the team prepares to take the field. When the guys are getting ready, some have their own pregame rituals to get in the right mindset before a game. As I'm shooting, I'm trying to figure out what's going through their minds in those moments before kickoff. Are they going over the plays? Are they meditating? Are they just putting their minds at ease before they take the field?
"In this photo, I captured Powell as he was staring off in the distance with a towel over his head. You can tell by the look in his eyes he was focused.
"As I captured this moment, I wanted the audience to also question what was going through his mind. My job is to create an image that tells a story and makes you think. I want to create something that is dynamic, and Powell's pregame preparation made for a natural and alluring portrait."
Lloyd has served as the lead photographer of the San Francisco 49ers since 1996.
