49ers Museum to Host 150 San Mateo Students for Interactive STEM Experience

On December 9, 2015 the 49ers Museum presented by Sony hosted the inaugural Chevron STEM Bowl presented by the 49ers Foundation and KPIX 5.

A group of 150 San Mateo students are set to enjoy the ultimate field trip experience on April 15 at Levi's® Stadium. The middle schoolers will be hosted by the 49ers Museum presented by Sony for an interactive day, focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

"This is a once in almost a lifetime opportunity for the students to take a trip like this," said Joe Spina, a seventh-grade teacher in San Mateo.

The 49ers Museum provides learning platforms that connect, inspire and engage students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The program each student goes through is geared to teach content-rich lessons in STEM while ingraining invaluable life skills. The students will be put through various stations designed to keep them active and engaged throughout their time at Levi's® Stadium.

Each activity is led by the museum's educational coaches and all have a correlation to the game of football. That includes lessons about living a healthy lifestyle, the engineering of the stadium, technological improvements in regards to equipment and the influence of mathemtics in football.

"It gives students a great eye-opening experience, and it is a rigorous learning experience," Spina said. "It is well-rounded. It will be fun. ... We are really appreciative of this opportunity."

The 49ers host thousands of students each year to experience their STEM educational programs. Here's the application if you'd like your school to be a part of this one-of-a-kind experience. The programs vary depending on the age of each group that walks through the doors of the 49ers Museum.
