Chip Flanagan is in his 11th season with the 49ers and sixth as an national scout. He previous served as a regional scout for the club from 2012-16.
In his current role, Flanagan is responsible for cross-checking college football's top prospects throughout the country.
Prior to joining the team, Flanagan spent eight seasons with Washington. He served as an area scout for Washington from 2007-11, where he was responsible for evaluating college prospects at schools located in the southwest region (2007-10) and southeast region (2011).
Prior to working as an area scout, Flanagan served as a college scouting assistant with Washington for two seasons (2005-06). He originally entered the NFL in 2004 as an intern in Washington's personnel department.
Flanagan was a three-time letterman in football at outside linebacker and a team captain with Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. He also lettered in baseball. A Lowell, MA, native, Flanagan received a degree in mathematics and a minor in economics in 2000. He also received a master's degree in sport management from Massachusetts-Amherst in 2004.
Flanagan and his wife, Lisa, reside in Virginia Beach, Va. The couple has a daughter, Kylie, and a son, Zack
