Niner Talk Bonus: Updates on Marcus Lattimore, NaVorro Bowman

Where do things stand with running back Marcus Lattimore and linebacker NaVorro Bowman? This bonus round of "Niner Talk" has the latest information on both fronts.

Thanks for sending me your Twitter questions. As always, here are the questions that didn't quite make the show.

It's possible. But it's not a lock.

We haven't heard much about Lattimore since training camp. In fact, the last time a 49ers coach was asked about the second-year running back was on Aug. 20.

"He's looking good," offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. "Our training staff are the people to ask on that if you want to get specifics... They're putting him through a lot of change of direction stuff, hard-type cutting. He's looking good."

Those comments were made nearly two months ago. But we do have something new to add to the story. Lattimore's stepfather, Vernon Smith, told GoGamecocks.com that Lattimore is ready to return.

"The NFL is a business, and he's an investment for their future and they wanted to take it slowly," Smith said. "They promised they would take care of him and they wouldn't rush him. They wanted him to take his time."

Lattimore is eligbile to be activated off the team's Non-Football Injury List after Week 6. For those of you keeping score at home, the 49ers face the St. Louis Rams on "Monday Night Football" this week, which would be Week 6.

By early next week, we'll know if Lattimore will re-join the 49ers at practice like he did for most of the offseason.

Colin Kaepernick has a good chance for this Rams game. St. Louis has allowed four rushing touchdowns on the year. That's not a ton, but Kaepernick is capable of scoring against any defense.

It's worth noting that he has 205 rushing yards, which would put him as the leading rusher on seven different NFL teams.

Kaepernick is also carrying the ball much more this season compared to 2013. He already has 43 carries through five games. He had 92 rushes in 16 games last season.

More rushes equals more chances to score touchdowns on the ground. And, of course, showcase his #Kaepernicking celebration.

He'll be back "later rather than sooner." That's the word from defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Two shots of Nespresso.

Justin Smith, easy.

I try to stay in the press box as much as possible.

Brandon Lloyd.

That was insane, but not exactly a surprise either.
