Game-by-game Notes on the 49ers 2017 Schedule

A Closer Look at the 2017 Schedule…

  • The 49ers face four teams in 2017 that reached the postseason in 2016 (Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks).
  • The Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants and Tennessee Titans will all be making their first visits to Levi's Stadium.
  • The Niners open the regular season at home for the third year in a row.
  • San Francisco hosts the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football for the first time in franchise history.
  • The Niners are on the road in Weeks 4-6, marking the first time the team has three-consecutive regular season road matchups since 2005 (Weeks 14-16).
  • The 49ers travel to Chicago in Week 13 for the third-consecutive season.
  • San Francisco takes on three of their four AFC South opponents in consecutive weeks in December (Weeks 14-16).
  • As offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense scored 16 touchdowns and averaged 357.5 yards per game against the Cardinals, Rams and Seahawks, including the postseason (four games in all).

Week 1 – Sunday, September 10 vs. Carolina – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers are 21-12-1 in regular season openers at home, including victories in each of their past six season openers.
  • San Francisco opens the season against an NFC South opponent for the first time since 2004 (vs. Atlanta).
  • The 49ers are 8-12 in the all-time series vs. Carolina and 3-6 at home.
  • San Francisco looks for their first home win against Carolina since defeating the Panthers, 24-14, on October 7, 2001.
  • After facing Carolina in 2016, the Niners take on the Panthers in back-to-back regular seasons for the first time since 2000-01, when Carolina was a member of the NFC West.


Week 2 – Sunday, September 17 at Seattle – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers are 7-13 overall on the road at Seattle.
  • San Francisco is looking to win at Seattle for the first time since 2011.


Week 3 – Thursday, September 21 vs. Los Angeles Rams – 5:25 p.m. PT on NFL Network

  • San Francisco swept the season series against the Rams in 2016 and leads the all-time home series, 34-32-2.
  • The 49ers face the Rams on Thursday Night Football for the third time overall. The two teams last met on TNF on September 26, 2013, a 35-11 San Francisco victory at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

Week 4 – Sunday, October 1 at Arizona – 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX**

  • San Francisco owns the overall series record vs. Arizona, 29-22, including a 12-12 mark on the road.
*   The teams have split each of the last 12 overall meetings between the two clubs.  

Week 5 – Sunday, October 8 at Indianapolis – 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers trail the overall series record against the Colts, 18-25, including a 7-14 record on the road.
  • San Francisco looks for their first road win against Indianapolis since defeating the Colts, 40-21, on November 25, 2001.


Week 6 – Sunday, October 15 at Washington – 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX

  • The Niners lead the overall series vs. Washington, 20-10-1, and are 8-7 on the road.
  • The 49ers currently have a four-game winning streak against Washington.
  • This marks the first meeting between the two clubs since the 49ers defeated the Redskins, 17-13, on November 23, 2014 at Levi's Stadium.
  • San Francisco heads to FedExField for the first time since November 25, 2013 when the team defeated Washington, 27-6, on ESPN's Monday Night Football.

Week 7 – Sunday, October 22 vs. Dallas – 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The all-time series between San Francisco and Dallas is tied, 17-17-1. The 49ers are 9-9 overall at home against the Cowboys.
  • After hosting Dallas in 2016, the Niners take on the Cowboys at home in back-to-back regular seasons for the first time since 1996-97.

Week 8 – Sunday, October 29 at Philadelphia – 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX

  • San Francisco owns the overall series record vs. Philadelphia, 19-12-1, and is 10-4-1 on the road.
  • The 49ers have won each of the last two meetings against the Eagles.
  • The Niners travel to Lincoln Financial Field for the first time since defeating the Eagles, 24-23, on October 2, 2011.

Week 9 – Sunday, November 5 vs. Arizona – 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers are 17-10 at home vs. the Cardinals, and have won six out of their last eight home games vs. Arizona.

Week 10 – Sunday, November 12 vs. New York Giants – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers are 11-9 at home vs. the Giants and look to defeat them at home for the first time since winning, 27-20, on November 13, 2011.

Week 11 – Sunday, November 19 – BYE

  • This marks the first time in franchise history that the 49ers have had their BYE in Week 11.
  • San Francisco's Week 11 BYE is the latest in the season for the team since 2000 (Week 13).

Week 12 – Sunday, November 26 vs. Seattle – 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX

  • San Francisco is 15-22 in the all-time series vs. Seattle and 8-9 at home.
  • The Niners have won five out of the last eight home games against the Seahawks.

Week 13 – Sunday, December 3 at Chicago – 10:00 a.m. PT on CBS

  • San Francisco's overall record vs. Chicago is 33-31-1 and 10-18-1 on the road.
  • This is the fifth meeting between the teams in the past six years, and the 49ers third consecutive regular season trip to Soldier Field.
  • San Francisco will travel to face the Bears in three-consecutive seasons for the first time since doing so from 2004-06.

Week 14 – Sunday, December 10 at Houston – 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers have won two of three overall regular season meetings against the Texans.
  • San Francisco makes their second regular season trip to Houston and first since losing to the Texans, 24-21, on October 25, 2009.
 


Week 15 – Sunday, December 17 vs. Tennessee – 1:25 p.m. PT on CBS

  • San Francisco is 8-5 vs. Tennessee, including a 3-3 home record.
*   The 49ers defeated the Titans, 31-17, in the previous meeting on October 20, 2013 in Tennessee.  

Week 16 – Sunday, December 24 vs. Jacksonville – 1:05 p.m. PT on CBS

  • The 49ers are 2-2 overall vs. Jacksonville, including a 1-0 record at home.
  • It is the first time the 49ers will host the Jaguars since November 27, 2009.
  • San Francisco won the last meeting between the two clubs, 42-10, in 2013 at Wembley Stadium in London.


Week 17 – Sunday, December 31 at Los Angeles Rams – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • San Francisco holds a slight edge as the road team in the series with a 34-32-1 all-time record.
  • The 49ers have won eight of their last nine games to close out the regular season.
