First, it was Donte Whitner departing to the Cleveland Browns. Next, it was Tarell Brown signing with the Oakland Raiders.
Now, the 49ers have lost a third free agent.
Versatile running back Anthony Dixon has signed with the Buffalo Bills. The length of the contract has not been announced by the team.
Roster turnover is inevitable at this time of the year. Dixon's departure is the latest example of the reality of the NFL offseason.
The four-year veteran appeared in all 64 regular season games since joining the 49ers as a sixth-round draft pick. Dixon started at fullback for the 49ers in the team's recent NFC title game loss to the Seattle Seahawks and also was a core special teams player throughout his time in San Francisco.
Dixon totaled 148 carries for 458 yards and eight rushing touchdowns with the 49ers.
