Al-Helew named H.S. Player of the Week

49ers Name Omar Al-Helew of Santa Teresa H.S. Player of the Week

The 49ers High School Player of the Week Award for week seven goes to Omar Al-Helew from Santa Teresa High School.

This past Saturday, the Saints of Santa Teresa High School beat Prospect High School 16-0.
At 6'1 ½" and 190-pounds, Al-Helew plays Defensive End and Offensive Guard. In Saturday's game, he had nine tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery. He is planning to play college football at San Jose State University or Menlo College.

"Omar leads the League in sacks and is fourth overall in the Central Coast Section," said Nick Alfano, Head Football Coach of Santa Teresa High School. "He has a competitive engine that never stops and is our team captain and leader. He is an amazing athlete and even better young man."

Al-Helew is a senior with a 3.6 GPA and is also involved in wrestling and track & field. He has received all-league recognition in all three sports. Currently he is Santa Teresa High School's reigning class athlete. This is an award that honors the most outstanding athlete at the school. He has now won the award three years in a row.

For being named 49ers High School Player of the Week, Al-Helew will receive a 49ers hat and t-shirt, two tickets to a 49ers home game and recognition on 49ers.com. At the end of the season Al-Helew will be invited to the 49ers Training Facility to accept a wooden football trophy.
