Back in June at the end of the offseason program, Kyle Shanahan suggested that Reuben Foster would be ready to fully participate in training camp. The San Francisco 49ers head coach confirmed on Thursday that the team's rookie linebacker will be full go for Friday's practice.
"He's good to go," Shanahan said. "We're excited to get him out there."
During spring workouts, Foster was limited to individual and non-contact drills. Friday will be our first glimpse of the linebacker in 11-on-11 work. John Lynch told reporters that Foster had one final ultrasound on Wednesday before offically being medically cleared.
"He's excited," Lynch said. "He's champing at the bit."
In addition, Shanahan said that Foster's participation level won't change when pads come on. The CBA requires the 49ers to have two non-padded sessions before allowing padded workouts. That means we will see Foster and the rest of the 49ers competing in full pads on Sunday.
There won't be "live" snaps with tackling, but Shanahan explained that he expects to have physical practices.
"We will thud up," Shanahan said, referring to contact and wrapping up without bringing players to the ground.
