Meet the Prospect: NDSU QB Carson Wentz

As 49ers.com runs down the list of top prospects in the 2016 NFL Draft, we continue our "Meet the Prospect" series with North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.First Glance

Many draft experts predict that Wentz will be off the board by the time the San Francisco 49ers are on the clock with the seventh overall pick. Those analysts suggest that the signal-caller will go second to the Cleveland Browns. Wentz' college resume is about as impressive as they come. The quarterback won an FCS National Championship all four years at North Dakota State, including three as the Bisons starter. A wrist injury cost Wentz eight games in 2015, but he still finished with 325.5 passing yards per game and 17 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

As a clear-cut top quarterback prospect in his draft class, he's a part of one of the biggest draft day questions. Who gets selected first: Wentz or Cal's Jared Goff?

In addition to his skills as a quarterback, Wentz has also shown prowess in the classroom. The top prospect owns a 4.0 GPA.Measurables

ESPN's Todd McShay – No. 2 overall (Cleveland Browns)

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah – No. 2 overall pick (Browns)

NFL Media's Charles Davis – No. 7 overall pick (San Francisco 49ers)What the Media is Saying…

"Looks the part with a tall, workable frame. Good arm strength to deliver downfield with above average velocity, using his body rhythm and touch to accurately control the placement. Tight release, especially for a player with his long arms. Shifts his weight well in the pocket to work through the noise and keep his hand on the trigger, maneuvering under duress with improved footwork." – CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler

"Wentz has taken full advantage of the postseason process, first shining at the Senior Bowl, then performing well during on-field drills and off-field interviews at the combine. I have yet to hear a negative word about Wentz's mental makeup, and he also grades out high in another extremely important area of QB evaluation: accuracy. He shows quick feet in his drops and throws the ball with excellent timing and placement." – ESPN’s Todd McShayFun Fact

Playing at NDSU is somewhat of a family affair. Carson's cousin, Luke, played tight end with him on the football team from 2012-15. His brother, Zach, was a four-year starting pitcher and infielder on the Bisons baseball team.Must-see Video

NDSU's athletic department put together a documentary-style piece called "The Road" about their 2015 season through the eyes of Wentz.
