EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- We are on the scene at "Sunday Night Football" to bring you the latest updates from the San Francisco 49ers Week 5 matchup with the New York Giants.

Let it begin.

Pregame Notes

Two of San Francisco's inactive players were known well before kick off. Vernon Davis was ruled out on Friday due to a knee injury. In addition, it was known that Ahmad Brooks would miss the game due to a death in the family.

San Francisco announced a pair of lineup changes: Garrett Celek will start for Davis; Corey Lemonier will start for Brooks. Joe Staley missed practice this week with a knee injury, but the four-time Pro Bowl tackle will make his 69th consecutive start. Andrew Tiller, who was promoted to the active roster on Saturday, was also among the 46 dressed players for the 49ers.

Other inactive players for San Francisco included wide receiver DeAndrew White, running back Mike Davis, recently acquired linebacker Gerald Hodgers, offensive lineman Ian Silberman and nose tackle Mike Purcell.

For New York, linebackers Devon Kennard and Jonathan Casillas, tackle Bobby Hart, wide receiver Victor Cruz, tight end Jerome Cunningham, defensive ends Robert Ayers and George Selvie were listed as inactive.

With Kennard and Ayers out, the Giants were without two starters in their front seven. Linebacker Mark Herzlich was named the starter for Kennard; Jay Bromely got the nod at left defensive tackle in the place of Cullen Jenkins, who moved over to defensive end to replace Ayers.

San Francisco Giants second baseman (and NY native) Joe Panik was on the field pregame. The World Series champion and All-Star posted this:

First Quarter

The 49ers won the toss and elected to receive. The offense opened with a three-tight end set and a Pierre Garçon rush of five yards. On the next play, Colin Kaepernick connected on a quick-screen pass to Bruce Ellington for a 30-yard gain down to New York's 45-yard line. Jon Beason later collided with Hyde on a helmet-to-helmet hit. The Giants linebacker was shaken up on the play and was replaced by Uani 'Unga. After building some early momentum, a third-down rush by Reggie Bush went for a 1-yard loss. As a result, Phil Dawson came on the field and connected on a 43-yard field goal. Dawson capped an 8-play, 55-yard scoring drive that took 3:41 off the clock. Hyde rushed for 17 yards on four carries. Ellington caught two passes for 39 yards on the drive.

The early scoring drive earned this reaction from the ambassador of the Bay Area:

New York announced Beason was being evaluated for a possible concussion. Eli Manning wasted no time finding his favorite target. The Giants quarterback launched a deep ball to Odell Beckham Jr. for a gain of 49. Kenneth Acker did a nice job of tracking down the wideout in the open field and bringing him down at San Francisco's 12-yard line. The 49ers dusted themselves off and kept Rashad Jennings out of the end zone on a 3rd-and-1 plunge. NaVorro Bowman, Michael Wilhoite and Ian Williams were in position to smother the Giants running back. New York tied the game on a 22-yard Josh Brown field goal. Beason (concussion) was ruled out by New York before San Francisco's third offensive possession. The 49ers made a personnel change before their third drive. Tiller has replaced Jordan Devey at right guard. Quinton Patton picked up a first down on a 2-yard reception. Hyde, however, lost seven yards on a carry to his right and the loss put San Francisco in a long third-down. Kaepernick's screen pass to tight end Garrett Celek was tackled well short of the first-down marker, forcing the 49ers to punt. Pinion connected on a 41-yard punt, which was returned by Giants wide receiver Dwaye Harris to their own 34.

FIRST HALF ANALYSIS*

The 49ers have put together a pair of long scoring drives, but the visiting team has not found the end zone. The Giants have, and that's why they're leading the game.

Kaepernick is San Francisco's leading rusher with 23 yards on three carries. New York's top-ranked rush defense (without Kennard and Ayers) has bottled up Hyde to the tune of eight carries for 12 yards in the first half. Hyde's 7-yard loss didn't help his rushing total.

Third-down conversions will be key in the final 30 minutes of play. New York has converted 5-of-7 third downs, while San Francisco has picked up 3-of-7 third-down conversions.

Can the 49ers move the chains and get into the end zone? We'll know more when second-half play resumes.

Third Quarter

Manning picked up a chunk of yards with a 24-yard completion to Harris, but the 49ers defense eventually forced a punt from midfield. Jarryd Hayne fair caught his first punt return of the night at the 11-yard line.

With new life, Kaepernick finished the drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Boldin on third-and-goal. The 10-play, 88-yard drive took 4:56 off the clock. It also broke Kaepernick's 10-quarter streak of not throwing a touchdown pass.49ers tied the game at 13 with 8:00 left in the third quarter

The 49ers forced a three-and-out at the right time. Hayne's first punt return opportunity went for 16 yards and featured a nifty cut-back move in the open field. A holding penalty, however, put the 49ers in a 3rd-and-20 predicament and ultimately led to a 41-yard Pinion punt.Game is tied at 13 with 4:30 left in the third quarter

New York's offensive scoring draught ended with a 17-yard touchdown catch by Beckham. The 49ers were close to bringing down Manning for a key sack, but the crafty quarterback was able to get the ball out fast. Kaepernick converted another, huge, mega, third-down with a 5-yard touchdown to Celek, who slipped behind Unga for an easy score. It was Celek's first career touchdown reception, too.

Kaepernick's second touchdown of the game finished off an 11-play, 80-yard scoring drive that took 4:25 off the clock.

Beckham returned to the field and earned a defensive holding penalty. On the next play, Manning threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to tight end Larry Donnell.

Heart-breaking.
