Carlos Hyde, Anquan Boldin Will Be Game-time Decisions vs. Rams

According to Jim Tomsula, the San Francisco 49ers might wait until Sunday to determine Pierre Garçon's availability for the team's Week 8 clash against the St. Louis Rams.

"The way we go into the week, we're expecting to go all the way up to gametime," Tomsula said on Friday. "That's just the way we plan it. He's got all of his assignments and is in all of the meetings and the walkthrough. He's doing all those things.

Hyde (foot) did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and will likely be listed as questionable when the official injury report comes out Friday afternoon. The team's leading rusher has 115 carries for 470 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.

"The medical staff lets me know that he could go all the way up to gametime," the coach said. "We're preparing like he's ready to go and all the other guys are ready to go."

Additionally, Anquan Boldin had his hamstring tighten up on him on Thursday and will be held out of practice on Friday.

"We're going to make sure we're on the safe side with that," Tomsula said.

Like Hyde, Boldin will also likely see a questionable designation next to his name on the final injury report.

If Boldin is unable to go against the Rams, that could open the door for Jerome Simpson to make his 49ers debut. After serving his six-game suspension and sitting out one week on the exemption list, Simpson is back on San Francisco's active roster.

"Obviously there would be something there, yeah," Tomsula said. "You've got Jerome and you've got (DeAndrew) White."

Simpson would have big shoes to fill should Boldin be sidelined. Boldin is either leading the team or tied for the team lead in receptions (31), receiving yards (372) and receiving touchdowns (2).

The regular season action would be Simpson's first since 2013.
