Posted Oct 10, 2017

The 49ers made another roster move, adding the veteran Hall in place of the injured Jackson.

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed cornerback Leon Hall to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has placed cornerback Asa Jackson on the Injured Reserve List.

Hall (5-11, 195) was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round (18th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. In nine years with Cincinnati (2007-15), he appeared in 121 games (105 starts) and registered 517 tackles, 129 passes defensed, 26 interceptions (three returned for touchdowns), five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In addition, he made four postseason starts for the Bengals where he had 24 tackles, three passes defensed and one interception returned for a touchdown. In 2009, Hall earned Associated Press Second-Team All-Pro honors after finishing with a career-high 27 passes defensed and six interceptions.

In 2016, Hall signed with the New York Giants, appeared in 12 games (two starts) and registered 30 tackles, two passes defensed, one interception and one forced fumble. He also started in the team’s only playoff game, notching five tackles and one pass defensed.

A 32-year-old native of Vista, CA, Hall played four seasons (2003-06) at the University of Michigan. He appeared in 50 games (37 starts) and finished his career with 180 tackles, 43 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, five fumble recoveries, three sacks and one forced fumble. As a senior in 2006, he earned Associated Press All-America honors after leading the Big Ten and tying a Michigan single-season record with 18 passes defensed.

Jackson (5-10, 183) was promoted to the active roster from the team’s practice squad on September 16, 2017. In four games this season, he registered three tackles on special teams.
