The San Francisco 49ers have released Stevie Johnson.
The veteran wide receiver, who was acquired in a trade last offseason with the Buffalo Bills, met with general manager Trent Baalke on Wednesday to discuss his future in San Francisco.
Baalke said the conversation would remain private. Johnson caught 35 passes for 435 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his lone season with the 49ers. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound wideout is now a free agent.
The 49ers acquired Johnson in a trade with the Buffalo Bills on May 9, 2014. He appeared in 13 games (one start) for San Francisco last year. Prior to joining the 49ers, Johnson spent six seasons with the Buffalo Bills after being selected in the seventh round (224th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. San Francisco currently has seven receivers under crontract for the 2015 season: Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington, Jerome Simpson, Chuck Jacobs and Trindon Holliday.
