The San Francisco 49ers announced they have claimed OL Josh Allen off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In order to make room on the roster, the team placed TE Garrett Celek on the Injured Reserve List.

Allen (6-3, 315) originally signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2014 out of the University of Louisiana Monroe. Following his release from Tampa Bay on August 31, 2014, he spent time on the Green Bay Packers practice squad before returning to the Buccaneers practice squad. He was later elevated to the Tampa Bay active roster and appeared in three games in 2014. Allen has spent the majority of the past two seasons on Tampa Bay's practice squad.

A 24-year-old native of Cedar Hill, TX, Jones appeared in 47 games (42 starts) at Louisiana Monroe (2010-13). He earned All-Sun Belt honors as a senior (First-Team) and junior (Second-Team).

McDonald (6-4, 267) started in 11 games this season where he registered 24 receptions while setting career highs in receiving yards (391), receiving average (16.3), touchdown receptions (four) and longest reception (75t). With touchdown receptions of 65 and 75 yards this season, McDonald became only the fourth tight end since the merger in 1970, and the first since 1997 (Shannon Sharpe, Den.) to register two touchdown receptions of 65-or-more yards in the same season. His 16.3 receiving average on the year ranks second among tight ends in the NFL (minimum 20 receptions) only behind New England's Rob Gronkowski (21.6).
