49ers Place DB Jimmie Ward on IR, Announce Additional Roster Moves

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have placed defensive back Jimmie Ward on the Injured Reserve List and promoted cornerback Prince Charles Iworah to the active roster from the team's practice squad. San Francisco also signed cornerback Duke Thomas to the practice squad.

Iworah (5-11, 193) was selected by the 49ers in the seventh round (249th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Western Kentucky University. He spent training camp with the team, was waived on Sept. 3, 2016 and signed to the team's practice squad the following day.

Thomas (5-11, 178) originally signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016 out of the University of Texas. Thomas was waived by Houston on September 8, signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad on Oct. 11 and later waived on Oct. 21.

Thomas appeared in 51 games (35 starts) at Texas where he registered 173 tackles, seven interceptions, 20 passes defensed, one sack and one forced fumble. He earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors in consecutive seasons (2014-15).

Ward (5-11, 193) started a career-high 10 out of 11 games played this season and registered 64 tackles, one interception and a career-high 12 passes defensed, and also picked up his first career forced fumble and fumble recovery on special teams.
