49ers vs. Seahawks

After missing a 41-yard field goal to win the game as regulation expired, kicker Joe Nedney came right back on the next drive and split the uprights with a game-winning 40-yard overtime field goal. His kick wrapped up a 10-play, 57-yard drive, the first possession of overtime, to give the 49ers a 33-30 victory.

Prior to the miss at the end of regulation, Nedney had tied the game on the series before with a 28-yard field goal that finished off a 12-play, 58-yard drive.

After tying the game at 30 apiece, special teams got down the field in a hurry on the kickoff, stopping Josh Wilson at the 11-yardline.

The defense took a defining stance on the next series, ended by a safety blitz by Michael Lewis for the first 49ers sack of the game.

The punt went out of bounds at the Seattle 49-yardline.

Two catches by Frank Gore set up Nedney for the missed field goal with three seconds left in the game.

A 30-yard punt return by Seattle's Michael Bumpus set up a 9-play, 41-yard scoring drive that resulted in a 32-yard field goal by Olindo Mare and a Seattle 30-28 lead with 7:41 remaining in the game.

Two plays into the final quarter and Seattle tied it up at 27-27 with a 1-yard touchdown run by T.J. Duckett that finished off a 15-play, 74-yard scoring drive.

The 49ers captured their first lead of the day on the series before, which ended with 6:41 to go in the third quarter. Frank Gore basically walked into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown, which was set up by Walt Harris' interception. Wide receiver Bryant Johnson started off the 4-play, 41-yard drive with back to back catches of 17 and 14 yards.

The 49ers evened the game at 20 -20 with linebacker Patrick Willis returning an interception 86 yards for a San Francisco touchdown with just under nine minutes left in the third quarter. Seattle was driving, but Harris got his hands on a pass, knocking it in the air for Willis.

Seattle headed into the locker room at the half, leading the 49ers 20-13.

Seattle first got on the board with 9:12 to go in the first quarter, scoring on a 27-yard touchdown run by Julius Jones on a draw play. The touchdown capped off a 9-play, 80-yard drive that was kept alive when Jordan Babineaux scooped up a blocked punt by linebacker Manny Lawson and then ran for the first-down yardage and more.

Seattle's defense then got into the action, scoring on a Frank Gore fumble recovery on the next series. Marcus Trufant first had his hands on the loose ball, but he too fumbled. The ball bounced in the air and was touched by a few players before Craig Terrill eventually recovered for a touchdown.

Following the defensive score, Allen Rossum returned the kickoff out near midfield. A 3rd down completion by J.T. O'Sullivan to Arnaz Battle moved the chains, and set up Frank Gore for a 23-yard run down to Seattle's 11-yardline. The drive then stalled, leading to a Joe Nedney 26-yard field goal to get the 49ers on the board with 2:36 to go in the first quarter.

The 49ers used an early second quarter drive to get on the board again, going 70 yards in 10 plays with Nedney connecting on a 28-yard field goal to bring the game within 8 points at 14-6.

Seattle used a short field to get on the board again, going 18 yards in six plays to set kicker Olindo Mare up for a 51-yard field goal. The kick came at 2:49 left in the half and put Seattle further ahead at 17-6.

O'Sullivan aired one up deep for Isaac Bruce who went 63 yards before he was pulled down at the 9-yardline. The 49ers avoided an interception in the end zone because of a pass interference call and then scored on the next play on a 3-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Johnson, trimming Seattle to a 4-point lead with 1:42 to go in the first half.

Nedney's kickoff went out of bounds, setting Seattle up with a short field. Hasselbeck marched his offense down the field, setting Mare up for 38-yard field goal as the first half expired.

Injury Notes: S Dashon Goldson (knee sprain) and T Jonas Jennings (shoulder) are out of the game. LB Patrick Willis left the game with a leg injury, but returned to action. CB Shawntae Spencer (knee) left late in the game and did not return.

Pregame Notes:

The 49ers won the coin toss but deferred until the second half. Seattle received the ball first.
