Kyle Shanahan was named the 20th head coach of the San Francisco 49ers on February 6, 2017. Shanahan signed a multi-year contract extension with the 49ers in September of 2023.

Shanahan led the 2025 San Francisco 49ers to a 12-5 record, including a 3-0 start and wins in six of their last seven regular season games, as well as a victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card Round. Shanahan’s 12 regular season wins gave him 82 in his career, which are the thirdmost by a head coach in franchise history. The 2025 49ers featured two Associated Press First-Team All-Pro selections in FB Kyle Juszczyk and RB Christian McCaffrey and an AP Second-Team selection in T Trent Williams.

Raheem Morris enters his 25th overall NFL season and his first as defensive coordinator for the 49ers.

Morris joins the 49ers after spending the previous two seasons (2024-25) as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. During his tenure in Atlanta, Morris guided the Falcons offense to top 10 rankings in multiple categories. The Falcons ranked eighth in rushing yards per game (128.1) and ninth in total yards (11,948), yards per game (351.4) and passing yards per game (223.3). Defensively, Morris’ Falcons tallied 88 sacks and 28 interceptions, tied for the seventh and 11th-most in the NFL, respectively, during that span (2024-25).

Klay Kubiak is in his sixth season with the 49ers and second as the team’s offensive coordinator. He spent the 2024 season as San Francisco’s offensive passing game specialist and served two seasons (2022-23) as the 49ers assistant quarterbacks coach after spending the 2021 season as a defensive quality control coach with the team. Kubiak joined the 49ers after spending the previous three years (2018-20) as the head coach at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory (Houston, TX). He also served as the school’s offensive coordinator from 2013-15 and for the 2017 season.

Kubiak helped guide the 2025 49ers offense to top-10 rankings in multiple categories. The unit finished the season near the top of the NFL in third down conversion percentage (49.8% – first), average first downs per game (22.3 – third), passing yards per game (244.5 – fifth), red zone efficiency (65.2% – tied-for-fifth), total yards (5,974 – seventh), yards per game (351.4 – tied-for-seventh) and points per game (25.7 – 10th). The unit also registered the third-most first downs in the NFL (379), 237 of which were passing first downs, which led the NFL and marked the most in a single season in franchise history. San Francisco’s offense featured three selections to the Associated Press All-Pro team in FB Kyle Juszczyk (First-Team), RB Christian McCaffrey (First-Team) and T Trent Williams (Second-Team). McCaffrey also earned AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors after finishing the season with 311 carries for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground to go along with 102 receptions for 924 yards and seven touchdowns through the air. McCaffrey led the team in rushing yards, receiving yards and rushing touchdowns, while his 413 total touches were the most in the NFL.

Brant Boyer enters his 15th season as an NFL coach and his second as special teams coordinator for the 49ers. He joined the 49ers after spending nine seasons as the special teams coordinator for the New York Jets.

Throughout his first season with the 49ers in 2025, Boyer led a turnaround for the special teams unit. The team improved in multiple categories and ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in field goal percentage (91.7% – seventh), yards per kick return (27.2 – seventh) and yards per punt return (11.6 – 10th). He helped guide K Eddy Piñeiro to a career year, as he converted on 28 of his 29 field goal attempts (96.6%) and 34 of his 38 extra point attempts (89.5%). Piñeiro shared the lead for the highest field goal percentage in the NFL (minimum 25 attempts) and finished with the second-highest field goal percentage in a single season in franchise history. He made each of his first 26 field goal attempts, which marked the longest streak by any kicker to begin their first season with the 49ers. Boyer also vaulted San Francisco’s return unit into one of the best in the NFL with WR Skyy Moore. Under his guidance, Moore registered 1,050 kick return yards, the seventh-most in the NFL, and averaged 26.9 yards per kickoff return, ranking fifth in the NFL. Moore also ranked in the top five in punt return yards (417 – fourth) and average yards per punt return (12.3 – fifth). In addition to Piñeiro and Moore’s success, Boyer also guided LB Luke Gifford and LS Jon Weeks to selections to the 2026 Pro Bowl. Gifford earned the honor after finishing the season with 21 special teams tackles, tied for the ninth-most in the NFL.
