Malcolm Smith Headlines 49ers Inactives in Week 1

The San Francisco 49ers have announced their six gameday inactives for their Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Malcolm Smith headlines the list as his hamstring didn't make enough progress during the week. He was expected to start next to Fred Warner. Instead, it will be Brock Coyle who likely gets the nod at WILL linebacker. Coyle started 10 games for the 49ers last season and was re-signed this offseason.

Here's the full list:

  • Smith
  • Richie James Jr.
  • Erik Magnuson
  • Matt Tobin
  • Jullian Taylor
  • Shon Coleman

The 49ers put Dekoda Watson (hamstring) on Injured Reserve on Saturday, leaving San Francisco with a vacant roster spot. That's why there are only six inactives.

Here's the Vikings list:

  • Pat Elflein
  • Kyle Sloter
  • Mackensie Alexander
  • Roc Thomas
  • Mike Boone
  • Aviante Collins
  • Jalyn Holmes

Elflein is the big one there as the Vikings will be going with a backup center. The 49ers defensive line should have a prime opportunity to make a big impact in the game.
