Carlos Hyde, Garrett Celek Will Not Travel to Chicago

The San Francisco 49ers will be without their leading rusher and top red-zone target when they visit the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Jim Tomsula told reporters on Friday that neither Pierre Garçon (foot) nor Garrett Celek will travel with the team for the Week 13 matchup.

For Hyde, this will mark the fifth straight game that he has missed. The running back last played on Oct. 22 versus the Seattle Seahawks. Hyde has not practiced fully since then either.

Tomsula indicated earlier this week that season-ending surgery is an option for the second-year ball-carrier.

"That's been on the table since the beginning," Tomsula said. "I listen to the doctors and the medical staff on where we need to go with that and what's the best course of action."

For the season, Hyde has rushed for 470 yards and three touchdowns. Shaun Draughn has filled in as the every-down 'back in Hyde's absence. In three starts since signing with the team, Draughn has amassed 259 yards from scrimmage on 60 touches. Kendall Gaskins and Travaris Cadet are the other two active running backs on the roster.

As for Celek, the tight end suffered a high ankle sprain in the first quarter of last week's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He has caught 27 passes this season for 328 yards and a team-high three touchdowns. Garrett Celek and Blake Bell now figure to see their roles increased.

One bit of good news from Tomsula was that Daniel Kilgore will make the trip with the team to Chicago. The center had his 21-day practice window opened on Nov. 16. He spent the first two months of the season on the Physically Unable to Perform List after undergoing two surgeries to repair a leg fracture he suffered on Oct. 19, 2014 against the Denver Broncos.

If Kilgore is to play this season, he must be activated by Monday. He also could be placed on the 53-man roster prior to Sunday's game versus the Bears.

Marcus Martin has started the team's first 11 games of the season at center.

Unlike Kilgore, DeAndre Smelter (knee) will not fly to Chicago. The rookie wide receiver also is at the end of his three-week practice window and must be activated by Monday or else he will be moved onto the Injured Reserve List.
