49ers PREP Selects Nathan Iskander as 2019 Week 9 Player of the Week

With a score of 56-41, the Hillsdale Fighting Knights, led by head coach Mike Parodi, beat the Carlmont Scots.

Nathan Iskander (#18) helped lead the Hillsdale Fighting Knights to victory through game-changing plays against the Scots. Iskander is a 5'8", 150-pound running back for the Fighting Knights, who continues to grow game after game. On Friday night, Iskander had 26 carries for a total of 265-yards and six touchdowns.

After a week of film and practice the Fighting Knights felt prepared for the game, but were still unsure what the Scots were going to bring to the field. After suffering a tough first half, the Fighting Knights were forced to make adjustments at halftime in attempt to change the game around. The Fighting Knights came back from halftime focused, taking control of the field and score. With five minutes left in the game, Iskander had a 61-yard rushing touchdown, putting the game out of reach for the Scots.

"What stands out to me the most about him is his size, it's not typical to see in this game" says Parodi. "He was nicknamed "Rabbit" by his pop warner coach because of his speed and size and it has stuck ever since."

Nathan is a multi-sport athlete who also competes in track in the off-season. People describe Nathan as a leader who helps guide his teammates through his energy and humor. With dreams of playing in the National Football League (NFL), remains focused on working hard to become a better athlete.

"This whole team means the world to me, but I just want to make sure I thank all of the lineman," says Nathan.

As the school of this week's recipient of the 49ers PREP High School Player of the Week Award presented by U.S. Bank, Hillsdale High School will receive a $500 grant towards its football program. As part of this award, Nathan will receive two tickets to a 49ers home game where he will be recognized on the field during the pre-game ceremony. At the end of the season, Iskander will be presented with his award by 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan during a closed practice at the SAP Performance Facility.

Congratulations, Nathan!
