49ers Open Practice Window for Rookie Safety Marcell Harris

The San Francisco 49ers secondary could be getting reinforcements in the coming weeks.

The team announced on Wednesday that it has opened the practice window and moved rookie safety Marcell Harris to the Injured Reserve/Designated for Return List. He is eligible to be activated to the 53-man roster beginning in San Francisco's Week 9 home game against the Oakland Raiders and must be activated by Nov. 7, 2018 in order to play this season. Harris was placed on the Injured Reserve List on Sept. 3, 2018.

San Francisco drafted Harris in the sixth round (184th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Florida product missed his 2017 season with the Gators due to a torn Achilles injury. Harris continued his rehab throughout the 49ers offseason program and made his practice debut during camp. He never saw any playing time in the preseason after suffering a hamstring strain that ultimately landed him on Injured Reserve. Should the 49ers opt to activate Harris on Nov. 7, he would provide depth at strong safety behind Jaquiski Tartt.
