In his current role, Turner oversees the team’s Player Engagement Program, aimed at optimizing and revolutionizing the personal and professional growth of players through continuous guidance and support during and beyond their NFL experience. He also works alongside Guy McIntyre, the 49ers Alumni Relations Director, in handling the 49ers alumni efforts.

An 11-year NFL veteran and former Pro Bowler, Turner played his entire career for the 49ers (1980-90). He went on to become one of the all-time great 49ers linebackers and earned four Super Bowl Championships with the team after originally being selected in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft out of Purdue.

Although his playing career ended in 1990, Turner never really left the 49ers family. The year following his retirement from football, Turner kept his association with the 49ers, working in the player and community relations departments. Since that time, he has greatly contributed to the team’s public relations, marketing, foundation and community outreach efforts. In 1992, Turner joined former coach and mentor, Bill Walsh, at Stanford University, where he served as the linebackers coach for the Cardinal for three seasons.

Upon leaving Stanford, Turner embarked on his radio and television career, while also working in community relations for DeBartolo Entertainment. He went on to serve as a color analyst for 49ers preseason games for 13 years (1995-2007) and was a co-host for the 49ers Preview Show. He also was the radio/TV color analyst for the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League for 14 seasons.

In July of 1998, Turner returned to the 49ers and worked in the player relations department. In 2001, he was promoted to Player Development Director and added alumni responsibilities, in 2003. The following year, Turner focused his efforts solely on the alumni, serving as an alumni coordinator from 2004 to 2005. He was later appointed as the Director of Alumni Coordinators in 2006, where he remained until his promotion to Vice President of Football Affairs.

A native of Chicago, IL, Turner attended Chicago Vocational High School – the same school that produced former Chicago Bears’ linebacker Dick Butkus.

Turner and his wife, Linda, have three children and reside in Tracy, CA.
