Gideon Yu was named President of the San Francisco 49ers in February of 2012, after serving nearly a year as the team’s Chief Strategy Officer. Yu also became a co-owner of the franchise in early 2012.
Yu leads all business, financial and strategic operations of the team. In his time with the 49ers, he led the team's efforts in securing an $850 million stadium construction loan, the largest ever in professional sports, and a $200 million financing package from the NFL, the largest sum for a team in league history. Additionally, Yu has led the drive to accelerate the opening date of the new Santa Clara stadium from the 2015 to 2014 season, and has laid the foundation for the team's technological and sustainability visions.
Prior to his career in sports, Yu was a technology executive and investor, most notably as the Chief Financial Officer of both Facebook and YouTube. He has also worked at such companies as Yahoo and Disney.
In 2011, Yu was named to the “Executive Dream Team, Startup Edition” by Fortune Magazine, and listed among the “Names You Need To Know” by Forbes Magazine.
Yu earned his BS in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management from Stanford University, and his MBA from Harvard Business School. He is active philanthropically, sitting on the boards of the UCSF Foundation, Tipping Point Community and BUILD.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., Yu and wife, Susie, have a 5-year-old son, Jonathan, and an infant daughter, Emily.
