•Having been diagnosed with the heart condition atrial fibrillation in college, Michael has gone on to serve as a spokesperson for the American Heart Association. Atrial fibrillation is a disorder found in about 2.2 million Americans in which the heart’s two small upper chambers, the atria, quiver instead of beating effectively. “I want people to know that heart disease is something that can be treated. You can live a normal life and do everything you dream of.” Michael participated in San Jose’s 2008 & 2009 National Start! Walking Day, which promotes walking, a healthier lifestyle and the prevention of heart disease.
•Michael grew up as a 49ers fan in Houston, Texas, and idolized Ronnie Lott and Merton Hanks. He spends invaluable time watching others play the safety position. His favorites include John Lynch and Lawyer Milloy.
•During the week of Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Michael won the annual EA Sports Madden Bowl competition. The tournament featured eight NFL players and Michael claimed the top spot by defeating Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, Colts DE Dwight Freeney (the two-time defending champion) and Bills RB Willis McGahee.

•Recorded the game-winning INT as time expired, picking off a QB Jay Cutler pass vs. Chi. (11/12).
•Posted 15 tackles including a career-high 14 solo at GB (11/22).
•Sacked QB Matt Hasselbeck at Sea. (12/6).
2008 (San Francisco):
•Ranked 3rd on team in tackles (118).
•Posted a sack late in 4th qtr. at Sea. (9/14) that forced the Seahawks to punt and helped set up a potential game-winning FG. Also recovered a fumble in 2nd qtr. deep in 49ers territory to prevent a Seahawks score.
•Tallied 9 tackles, 2 PDs and 1 FF at NO (9/28). On 4th-and-1 late in 4th qtr., Lewis forced a fumble on Saints FB Olaniyi Sobomehin just before he crossed the goal-line that was recovered by 49ers at 3-yd. line.
•Had season-high 13 tackles at StL (12/21) in 17-16 victory.
•Left game in 2nd qtr. vs. Was. (12/28) with knee injury.
2007 (San Francisco):
•Led all NFL defensive backs and ranked 2nd on the team with 139 tackles.
•Tallied 15 tackles vs. Bal. (10/7).
•Awarded game ball after posting a season-high 16 tackles to go along with 1 sack and 1 FF at Arz. (11/25) in a 37-31 OT win. Sacked QB Kurt Warner for an 8-yd. loss in 3rd qtr., forcing the fumble.
•Recorded 11 tackles, 1 INT and 2 PD at Car. (12/2).
2006 (Philadelphia):
•Notched 1 sack and 1 FF, while recording a team-high 15 tackles at SF (9/24).
•Intercepted a deflected pass from QB Jason Campbell and returned it 84 yds. for his first career TD at Was. (12/10).
2005 (Philadelphia):
•Finished season with a career-high 141 total tackles, which ranked 2nd on the team. Named to The Sporting News “Top 100 NFL Players” list in 2005.
•Hauled in crucial INT off QB Eli Manning in 4th qtr. and logged a season-high 15 tackles vs. NYG (12/11).
•Recorded 1 sack of QB Michael Vick along with 1 FF, 1 FR and 8 tackles at Atl. (9/12).
2004 (Philadelphia):
•Named a Pro Bowl starter after leading team in total tackles (129), while also earning 2nd-team All-Pro by Football Digest and All-NFC by Pro Football Weekly.
•Posted a career-high 17 tackles vs. Car. (10/17).
2003 (Philadelphia):
•Named to Howie Long’s “Tough Guys Team” in 2003.
•All three of his INTs in 2003 came late in 4th qtr. of Eagles victories. His INT off QB Chad Pennington vs. NYJ (10/26) led to the game-winning TD, while his INT off QB Jay Fielder at Mia. (12/15) occurred with under 4:00 remaining and with a 7-point Eagles lead.
•Blocked a 45-yd. FG attempt by PK John Carney that would have pulled Saints within a TD late in 3rd qtr. vs. NO (11/23).
2002 (Philadelphia):
•Made Pro Football Weekly’s All-Rookie Team as a special teamer after finishing 2nd on team with 20 tackles in 14 games played.
•Started final 4 regular season games of 2002 for an injured S Blaine Bishop (groin).
•Made first career start at Sea. (12/8) and led all defenders with 12 tackles.
•Recorded his first career INT at NYG (12/28) as he snared a pass by QB Kerry Collins that ricocheted off of TE Jeremy Shockey in the end zone to prevent a Giants score.
COLLEGE:
•A mainstay at strong safety since his freshman year at Colorado, closed out his career ranked 9th on school’s all-time list with 336 tackles (2nd-best among DBs), 2nd in FFs (10) and tied for 12th with 9 INTs. Twice won school’s Dave Jones Award for most outstanding defensive player and the Hale Irwin Award for most outstanding defensive back in his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, was a unanimous All-Big 12 Conference first-team choice and a semi-finalist for the Thorpe Award, given to nation’s top defensive back as he led squad with 112 tackles and 5 INTs, one which he returned for a TD.
PERSONAL:
•Was district MVP as a junior and senior while attending Lamar Consolidated (Rosenberg, TX) HS, where he played defensive back, quarterback and running back.
•Also lettered in basketball and track.
•Spends invaluable time watching others play the safety position. His favorites include John Lynch and Lawyer Milloy. Grew up a 49ers fan and idolized Ronnie Lott and Merton Hanks.
•Brother, Rodney Williams, played basketball at Texas Lutheran and is now a lawyer.
