Stadium

In our continuing efforts, to “Go Green,” this season we have implemented the following for game days:

Green & Gold Rewards

It pays to be green at 49ers games! This season, our new Green & Gold Staff will be throughout the interior lot looking for fans that recycle their bottles, cans, paper, and organics. If you are spotted and given a Fantastic Fan Raffle Ticket, you could win merchandise, autographed items, and much more!
Lucky winners will be selected in the second half so be sure to pay attention to the video board during the game.

To facilitate our rewards program we have built 14 Recycle Stations in the interior lot – you can’t miss them!

Tips for Being Greener on Gameday and Beyond

  • Our Faithful stick together! Travel in carpools or via Muni and BART to Candlestick Park to save energy and gas.
  • Before heading out to purchase your tailgate items, grab some reusable bags or reuse paper or plastic shopping bags.
  • Make sure your home has recycling bins for all of your paper napkins, plastic utensils, and metal cans and keep them out in the open to use.
  • After reading your 49ers news in the San Francisco Chronicle or San Jose Mercury, recycle your old newspapers.
  • Can’t make it out to a game? Maintain and repair appliances like your television, grill, and refrigerator because proper maintenance reduces waste.
  • When you travel to 49ers away games, stay at hotels that use less water or energy. Before you head out for the day, unplug any electronics that use electricity even when “off.”
  • Doing some weekend yard work before the game? Compost grass clippings instead of bagging them as cut grass decomposes and returns to the soil naturally.
  • Buy rechargeable batteries for your game day camera or radio. It takes 1,000 regular batteries to equal the lifespan of one rechargeable battery.
  • Purchase recycled paper and print on both sides. By recycling one ton of paper, you can save 17 trees—more than the length of three football fields!
  • Reuse your coffee cup or even better buy a 49ers mug to avoid the waste caused by throwing away any paper or Styrofoam.

Being Green in the Bay

Here are some great resources to be green throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Planet Tran Taxi Services: These green taxis and shuttles will take you where you need to go without increasing your carbon you-know-what-print. With a fleet of exclusively ultra fuel-efficient vehicles in the country, it's the first taxi service to put fuel efficiency in the front seat. PlanetTran's primary business is in green rides to and from the San Francisco and Oakland airports.

Recycled Material Building Supplies: Before you build, paint, remodel, or so much as hammer in a nail, it's worth tripping to the Bay's building resource centers — second-life sites for construction debris and used building supplies. The East Bay's Urban Ore and The Reuse People host landscapes of pink toilets, claw foot tubs, and towering stacks of discontinued tile. Looking for some SF supplies? Try Building Resources in SF (www.buildingresources.org) or www.stopwaste.org.

SF Green Map: A great online visual for people looking for the nearest community garden, recycling center, and so much more, and this happy cartographic achievement documents our city by highlighting its bright green hubs of activity. www.sfgreenmap.org

Garden for the Environment: Gardening involves more than just a tub of dirt, seeds, and a healthy appetite. To really get your hands dirty, there is a body of knowledge you'd do well to tap into. At Garden for the Environment's Inner Sunset one-acre farm, you can learn about leafy greens while meeting like-minded seed slaves. After all, it pays to have a buddy who can plant-sit. www.gardenfortheenvironment.org
