Training Camp Check-in: Chris Cook, Vance McDonald and Quinton Dial

Posted Jul 28, 2014

With Monday's off-day, let's take a look at three San Francisco 49ers who are competing for expanded roles during practices.

Monday is the San Francisco 49ers first off-day during training Camp. Here at Niners Daily, we'll use this breather to catch up with three players competing for spots: cornerback Chris Cook, tight end Vance McDonald and defensive tackle Quinton Dial

Chris Cook

Cook: "I came here to compete and win a job."

Jim Harbaugh on Cook: "Been good. He’s working, as the corners are right now, there’s a group with two experienced corners. Tramaine Brock and Chris Culliver definitely are playing at a very high level right out of the shoots... Then I think with Chris Cook, Perrish Cox, (Kenneth Acker) and Dontae Johnson, they’re all just working. They’re working to assert themselves."

Vance McDonald

McDonald: "I'm seeing the offense in a whole different way."

Harbaugh"Our expectations are high. He’s doing everything for the second time. Doing everything again and that’s where we always think that a player can make those most growth in his entire career going from year one to the start of year two. And he’s done that. He has elevated his game."

Quinton Dial

Dial: "I'm trying to show 'em what I can do."

Harbaugh: "Along with Quinton Dial. I’m very, very pleased to see both him (and Tank Carradine) in pads, in real full-speed competition with the pads. I thought that Tank especially is even further along, some real heavy hands and strong. He’s off to a strong start."
