>>The story of Jimmie Ward is that of an underdog. The current first round pick struggled to find a Division I school willing to sign him out of high school. Ward's teammates at Northern Illinois, the only school that would offer a scholarship to the undersized defensive back, were unimpressed by his small stature. Former teammate and defensive end George Rainey sized up Ward upon his arrival. “You’re not about to play, dude,” Rainey said. “You’re not even big enough.” After four years of watching Ward play, Rainey now happily admits his misconception. Now entering the first season of his professional career, Ward continues to prove the doubters wrong.
