1. Hindsight Being 20-20

One way we've been getting ready for NFL Draft day – and, yes, it's finally here – is reviewing past 49ers drafts and what the talking heads said about notable picks. We went as far back as 2007, when one expert smartly called Patrick Willis the NFL's "next great middle linebacker." With the time we have left, let's go back to '05, when No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith overshadowed the rest of San Francisco's class, including a third-round draft pick out of Miami. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. wrote, "Frank Gore could help take some pressure off Smith as they mature together." Other observers went a few steps further. "Gore, the running back who kept Willis McGahee on the bench, would have been a first-round pick except for multiple knee injuries," noted NFLDraftScout.com at the time. Gore would be "out to prove college knee injuries won't prevent him from becoming a star," said USA Today in its report card.

>>Jim Harbaugh has said that Gore has "three more good years" left in the NFL.

>>Less importantly, how good of a fantasy football option will Gore be in 2014?

2. Kaepernick Pics

The best photos come from the best access. Thanks to our team photographers, 49ers.com has been able to produce rare image galleries, like this one of Colin Kaepernick. But not even the acclaimed Michael Zagaris and Terrell Lloyd have the kind of behind-the-scenes wiggle room that a quarterback's sister can get. Lindsay Kaepernick has many cool shots of her brother around this time three years ago, when "Kap" was drafted, on her blog. They're worth a scroll.

>>Does Kaepernick hope to throw passes to a particular Florida State product not named Anquan Boldin in 2014?

>>Some have the 49ers drafting Kelvin Benjamin in their mocks, but our resident comedians have general manager Trent Baalke moving up to select a wideout from Indiana.

>>Baalke outlined the team's options of trading into the top 20 picks come Thursday evening.

3. Around the League

>>The St. Louis Rams reportedly told incumbent quarterback Sam Bradford that their perceived interest in draft-eligible quarterback Johnny Manziel wasn't real.

>>Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman will earn more than $46 million in the first three seasons of his new contract extension. Will draft-eligible CBs above six feet tall see more interest than usual?

>>Data-cruncher Nate Silver wrote that there's a 50 percent chance that Missouri pass-rusher Michael Sam, who came out as gay before the Scouting Combine, will be drafted this weekend.
