1. Davis Like a Rock

San Francisco 49ers right tackle Anthony Davis announced on social media that he underwent surgery on his left shoulder, according to reports like this one. "I recently had surgery for the first time ever," Davis reportedly wrote on his Instagram account. Davis also revealed that he injured the shoulder in Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts but played through pain. This is just one example of the toughness Davis has displayed in his four NFL seasons, over which he's started 64 straight regular season games. He's an inegral part of the team's five-man offensive line and will be one of four returning starters come next season. Left tackle Joe Staley and left guard Mike Iupati will be joined by right guard Alex Boone and Davis again in 2014. The only switch: Daniel Kilgore is competing to replace departed free agent Jonathan Goodwin at the center position.

>>Kilgore recently spoke with 49ers.com's Taylor Price about his contract extension and his opportunity to play full-time for the first time.

>>And here's Kilgore's career in pictures.

2. NFL Changes in Store

What about a four-day NFL Draft that still spans seven rounds? How about a 14-team postseason as early as this coming season? Could extra-point attempts be moved back to the 15-yard line? It seems like everything will be on the table at next month's owners meetings in Atlanta. Commissioner Roger Goodell told Associated Press editors as much.

Now for the effect of these potential changes on the 49ers. San Francisco earned a Wild Card berth last season, but the rival Arizona Cardinals were narrowly left out despite their 10-6 record. Both teams would have made it if 14 were allowed in last winter. As for the extra-point being pushed back, it wouldn't seem to have an effect on kicker Phil Dawson. The 15-year veteran has not missed a point-after attempt in four seasons, or in 121 attempts.

>>Speaking of the draft, which college prospects will be at Radio City Music Hall in New York next month?

3. Around the League

>>The Carolina Panthers picked up the fifth-year contract option of Cam Newton, locking up the quarterback through the 2015 season.

>>49ers tight end Vernon Davis, he of his own stock options, will attend a summer fashion show in San Jose.
