Posted Nov 7, 2014

Nose tackle Ian Williams fielded questions from Twitter, sharing his thoughts on what it's like to play nose tackle, the bond on the 49ers defense and his Twitter handle.

You asked and nose tackle Ian Williams answered.

Williams was our guest on this week’s 1-on-1 interview, and he also took time to answer your #AskIan questions on Twitter.

C.J., it’s fun. It’s one of the hardest things to do out there, not taking anything away from other positions. It’s fun to hold up guys so everyone else can make plays. At the end of the day, it’s all about winning games. Whetever I can do to help win games, I’ll do my best to.

Justin Smith is our coach on the field and “Jimmy T” is the coach off the field. When we have problems in game or during practice, we’re in and out of the huddle, talking to him. "Jimmy T" is great because he gets your level of play up.

The guys around me. When you have to focus on Justin Smith, Ray McDonald, Dan Skuta, Ahmad Brooks, Aaron Lynch, Aldon Smith, Tony Jerod-Eddie, it helps give you that one-on-one attention.

WILLIAMS: We all hang out and that helps with the team camaraderie. You play for one another. You don’t want to go out there and mess around; you play for your brothers next to you.

WILLIAMS: It’s a blessing just to be back in the locker room. It was a hard few months for me. Playing in the NFL is a blessing; every day it is.

WILLIAMS: It comes down to both. You have to have the scheme and you have to have the players. We have great coaches to put the scheme together, and we have great players to execute the schemes.

WILLIAMS: I just come in, warm up, listen to music, get in the hot tub and get my mind right. I always pray right before the game.

Eric, I need to change it. I thought it was taken.

WILLIAMS: I’ll see what I can do out there. They’re a great opponent. Their offensive line is pretty good. Drew Brees and those guys are great. We’re just going to try to fly around and play defense like we always do.
