Ric Flair Gives 49ers ‘Extra Juice’

Posted Jan 6, 2014

Ric Flair's pregame speech gave the 49ers "extra juice" before a win over the Packers.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Wooooooo!

Is that enough O’s?

Ric Flair’s memorable pregame speech gave the 49ers some entertainment and inspiration before a 23-20 playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.

The wrestling legend surprised the team at the end of a Saturday night meeting and offered words of encouragement before a Wild Card matchup with the Packers.

“That was nice to meet somebody legendary like that, somebody I grew up watching on TV,” Anthony Dixon said.

The fourth-year running back felt like the 49ers were already amped up for the game, but the last-minute pep talk was the perfect amount of extra motivation.

“It definitely provided some extra juice,” Dixon said. “That’s Ric Flair, that’s what he’s about, juice.”

The entire team whipped out cell phones to document the experience of Flair’s surprise visit.

“We had a lot of excitement going into this game, he just added to it,” right guard Alex Boone said.

The 49ers reached out to the WWE to ask for Flair last week. Flair jumped at the opportunity to meet the players.

Justin Smith was one of the most adamant about having Flair visit the team.

"I've always been a big fan and it just all came together," Smith said. "Getting him here for a playoff game was just awesome."

Smith said Flair's visit had a big impact on San Francisco's starting outside linebacker Aldon Smith.

"Aldon is still pumped up," Justin Smith said.

The 49ers linebacker went on to record 1.5 sacks against the Packers.
