July 25 – Jim Harbaugh on remembering the hardest hit of his playing career: “No, I don’t remember what I did 20 years ago, what I did 15 years ago. Almost 30 years ago we’re talking, trying to remember what I did today… I got some scars. Sometime I’ll have you over for a barbeque and I’ll strip my sleeves and show my scars. I usually do it about once a year for my neighbors. Feast my neighbors and talk about days gone by. But today’s not the day. You will be included for the yearly barbeque.”

July 29 – Outside linebacker Aldon Smith on what he’s learned in his two-plus years with the 49ers: “Just the consistency, the way you take care of your body, your time management. You can treat yourself like you want to play for three, you can treat yourself like you want to play for 13, so that’s what I’ve learned.”

July 30 – Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on defensive tackle Ian Williams: “He’s always been a good worker here, but he just kicked it up a notch. He saw an opportunity, we signed him to an extension which gave him a message. Two nose tackles ahead of him are no longer here. He’s matured as a worker and as a professional football player… Trust me, he should’ve been drafted.

July 31 – Offensive coordinator Greg Roman on center Jonathan Goodwin’s success with the 49ers: “Well, since the day we got here it harkens back to Jonathan’s first trip here. I remember Jim, myself we went out to eat with Jon and at the time putting in a new system. And here’s this veteran center who is just a cagey vet, knows the game, can handle all the different kind of communication that’s so critical there. I remember when he got on board with us it was really an exciting day for us. And he has not disappointed one bit because he directs traffic as good as you can. So it’s been a real key cog in our wheel.”

Aug. 1 – Kicker Phil Dawson on kicking in Candlestick Park: "I've got to wear out Weather.com like I always do, trying to figure out hourly forecasts and wind directions... I'm pretty psycho. It's a borderling problem. Of all the weather sites, Weather.com, AccuWeather and WeatherBug, I won't tell you which one is my favorite, but there is one in Cleveland that is the most accurate. I'll have to put those same three to the test here and see which one is the most accurate."

Aug. 2 – Fangio on rookie linebacker Nick Moody’ development: "He’s got a lot of good tools in his toolbox. He just isn’t a union carpenter yet."

Aug. 4 – Harbaugh on his team’s mobile playbooks: “Sometimes guys complain about, ‘what do I do with my down time. I have nothing to do. I’m just sitting here staring at the four walls. Where do I go, what do I do?’ Get out the iPad and start watching video. That’s how I chill now. Sit on the couch and watch the Ipad. At home, at the office. It’s really good.”

Aug. 5 – Roman on the continuity of his offensive line: “They have a great relationship. Each one kind of has his own personality. It’s something that we’re trying to get better and they’re trying to get better. But, I think we have the right kind of guys there. I can’t give you any specific stories from the offseason or whatnot, but they’ve been known to go out and throw down a lot of beef together.”

Aug. 6 – Fangio on cornerback Tramaine Brock: "When they’re out there on the field in practice, that’s their quiz, if you relate it to taking a course in school. Game day is their test. So (Brock’s) been doing OK in the quizzes. We’re going to see how he does on his test.”

Aug. 8 – Safety Eric Reid on his first NFL preseason game: “We’re football players, so it was exciting to hit somebody else – and to really hit somebody else. Aug. 11 –Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula on Lawrence Okoye, “He’s the British record-holder in the discus. He is 6-foot-6. I am tall in London. He walks down the street – he’s the guy. He’s been accepted to Oxford Law. He puts that on hold, and he comes to do this, and he’s at the bottom of the totem pole. He’s very the last guy. He went from the very absolute pinnacle. To me, that takes a whole lot of guts, or there’s something wrong with him. Either way, it will help him – you know what I mean?”
Aug. 12 – Harbaugh on coaching against his former quarterback, Alex Smith, in the 49ers second preseason game in Kansas City: “It’s personal with Alex. It probably is different in that way. And, feel like there’s a great friendship there and a lot of history. He’s a unique person. A very good, in all ways, a good friend. No longer on our team. Not a trusted agent anymore. I know the competitor he is and he wants to win and we do as well… Long and good memories of the time when we were teammates, a personal friendship. Then we wish him the best. A long and healthy and successful career.”
