Ryan Named CBS-5 49ers Analyst

Posted May 10, 2011

Bay Area native Tim Ryan has been named CBS 5’s (KPIX-TV) analyst for San Francisco 49ers preseason game broadcasts and the station’s weekly 49ers Preview show.  He will work his first game on CBS 5 on August 12 at 5PM PDT when the 49ers open the preseason in New Orleans against the Saints.

“I am thrilled to be working with Dennis O' Donnell and the CBS 5 team on the 49er preseason TV broadcasts.  I'm equally as excited to be part of the 49er Preview show with Dennis during the regular season. I grew up loving the 49ers with their rich tradition as one of the elite franchises in pro football. The 49ers have always been a first class operation and I’m tremendously grateful to have this opportunity. 2011 is an exciting time for the vast 49er fan base. The team itself is not short on talent and, with the new coaching staff, I truly believe it is time for the 49ers to get back to doing what the fans expect and frankly deserve – to win consistently and have another opportunity for the elusive Lombardi Trophy” said Ryan

“Tim played the game, works in a network broadcast booth, and does a daily NFL radio show.  Those factors combined with his local roots will give CBS 5 viewers a unique perspective on the 49ers as well as the rest of the NFL” said Dennis 0’Donnell, Sports Director, CBS 5.

Former Chicago Bear and USC All American Defensive Lineman Tim Ryan stepped into the Fox Sports television broadcast booth in 2002, serving as an analyst.  Ryan has called more than 145 NFL games for Fox Sports on network TV. Ryan has also called college games for the Fox network, having served as an analyst for two Tostitos Fiesta Bowls. (Texas versus Ohio State and Boise State versus TCU). Ryan spent many years in radio and television before landing with Fox. His on-air career began in 1996 as host of the "Gametime" show on Sportsfan Radio Network.

He currently hosts "Movin' The Chains" on Sirius XM satellite radio airing Monday - Friday from Noon – 4 p.m. PT. Ryan has covered many major sporting events, including several Super Bowls and 15 consecutive NFL Drafts.

The all-time leading tackler in USC history with 389 documented stops, the former Trojan team captain also holds the single-season quarterback sack record with 20. During his distinguished career at USC, the two-time All American played in three Rose Bowls and was a finalist for the Lombardi Award in 1989. After the conclusion of his stellar collegiate career, Ryan was selected with the 61st pick in the 1990 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. Ryan spent five years with the Bears before retiring in 1994 with a career-ending neck injury.

Ryan was raised in San Jose, California, where he starred as a prep All American while attending Oak Grove High School. Ryan was later voted California Bay Areas "High School Athlete of the Decade" at the conclusion of the 1980s. He resides in San Jose with his wife, Jacque, and their children, Tim Jr. and Kennedy.
