Ray McDonald Ruled Out for Saints Game

Posted Nov 15, 2013

Ray McDonald will miss Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints with an ankle injury.

The 49ers will be officially be without two players on Sunday: Quinton Patton and Ray McDonald.

Patton has been recovering from a broken foot since Week 4, but McDonald will miss his first game of the year. An ankle injury has caused McDonald to miss practice this week and he won’t suit up for Sunday’s road matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

“It looks like he’s going to be out,” Jim Harbaugh said on Friday.

The 49ers have also listed Vernon Davis and Eric Reid both as questionable to play. The starting tight end and free safety have been recovering from concussions this week. Each took part in a contact test on Friday where they had to engage in physical contact.

Both players passed and appear to be symptom free.

"Just had to get banged around a little bit," Davis said.

"We obviously weren't trying to kill each other," Reid said of the drill where he collided with Davis. "We got the point of the drill accomplished."

In addition to Davis and Reid, linebacker Dan Skuta (foot) and wide receiver Mario Manningham (knee) are both questionable.

The 49ers will look for young defensive linemen Tony Jerod-Eddie and Demarcus Dobbs to step in to replace McDonald’s presence in the starting lineup.

“It’s step up time,” Harbaugh said. “And they have been and they are doing so. We anticipate good things.”
