Posted Dec 11, 2013

Dawson, a 15-year veteran kicker, has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Phil Dawson was clutch in Sunday’s win over the Seattle Seahawks.

San Francisco's confident kicker made four field goals, including the game-winner from 22 yards out in a 19-17 win.

For his efforts, the 15-year veteran has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. It’s the third time Dawson has taken home a Player of the Week Award, and it’s his first win since Week 15 of 2005.

Dawson’s field goal against Seattle was his first game-winner with the 49ers. It also gave him 20 consecutive made field goals, a franchise record.

"I try not to think about it. I try to treat every kick the same,” Dawson said of his streak after the 49ers improved to 9-4. “You have to have a bad memory. Unfortunately, I have a very good memory; I remember my last miss.”

The veteran kicker signed a one-year contract with the 49ers during free agency has been a reliable specialist for Jim Harbaugh.

“To kick 20-straight field goals, quite an accomplishment,” Jim Harbaugh said of his kicker. “You get a chance to put points on the board you want those points.”
