NFC West Report: Sam Bradford out for Season

Posted Oct 22, 2013

Checking in on how the 49ers divisional rivals fared in their Week 7 matchups around the NFL.

In this edition of the NFC West Report, 49ers.com recaps Week 7's action within the division.

St. Louis Rams

Decision: 30-15 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Offense: Rookie running back Zac Stacy received 17 carries -- his third straight week of getting at least 14 -- but averaged just 3.1 yards per carry against the Panthers stout defense.

Defense: Defensive end Robert Quinn earned his NFC-high seventh sack of the season.

Stock down: Quarterback Sam Bradford, who was intercepted on his first pass attempt of the game, tore the ACL in his left knee while being tackled later on at the sideline; he will miss the rest of the season, the team announced Monday.

Stat: St. Louis committed five personal foul penalties, including defensive end Chris Long's ensuing ejection for throwing a punch.

Quote: "It’s difficult because he’s a big part of our offense, but we have to be adults and be men and move on because we still have a season to play," wide receiver Chris Givens told StLouisRams.com regarding Bradford. "Sam was really coming into his own and getting the grasp of things and getting comfortable. It’s really tough to see him go out when he’s at the top of his game."

Ahead: St. Louis hosts Seattle in Week 8.

Arizona Cardinals

Decision: 34-22 loss to the Seahawks.

Offense: After a two-pick day, quarterback Carson Palmer has thrown 11 of his 13 interceptions this season over his last five games.

Defense: Linebacker John Abraham recorded two sacks -- his first of the season -- and two forced fumbles.

Stock down: Left tackle continues to be a problem area for Arizona; Bradley Sowell struggled again in that spot on Thursday.

Stat: Running back Rashard Mendenhall gained 22 yards on 13 rushes; he's cracked the 60-yard mark just twice this season.

Quote: "I’ve got to give him credit for standing," Cards coach Bruce Arians told AZCardinals.com. “When you are hit that many times and you still stand in there… looking back, neither interception was his fault whatsoever. Overall, he protected the football like he needed to. We’ve got to make better plays."

Ahead: Arizona hosts the Atlanta Falcons (2-4) in Week 8.

Seattle Seahawks

Decision: 34-22 win over the Cardinals.

Offense: Quarterback Russell Wilson was up and down, as he threw three touchdown passes but lost two of his three fumbles.

Defense: Seattle's two interceptions (safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Brandon Browner) were turned into touchdowns.

Stock up: Linebacker Malcom Smith, who is manning weak-side linebacker because K.J. Wright has replaced the injured Bobby Wagner at middle 'backer, recorded a team-high eight tackles.

Stat: The defense sacked Palmer seven times, including a pair from defensive end Chris Clemons.

Quote: "This was a really cool night for our football team. We wanted to get on the road here and get this thing done and continue to feel good about our ability to win on the road,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll told Seahawks.com. "It was a game that got tight, then we pulled away and kind of put it on control."

Ahead: Seattle visits St. Louis in Week 8.
