Morning Tailgate: Panthers to See Improved ‘Kap’

Posted Jan 7, 2014

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera expects to see a much improved Colin Kaepernick this Sunday in Charlotte.

Ron Rivera’s defense held Colin Kaepernick to a season-low 91 passing yards in a 10-9 road win back in Week 10.

The Carolina Panthers head coach, however, doesn’t foresee that type of production happening again when the 49ers and Panthers meet this Sunday in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.

“I expect the young man to come out and play well,” Rivera said on Monday, via the Associated Press. “He's a good football player and he showed it (Sunday) night.”

Carolina also sacked Kaepernick six times in an upset win at Candlestick Park. It's worth noting the 49ers quarterback was without two of his top receivers that day. Michael Crabtree was still on the PUP list and tight end Vernon Davis left the game early with a concussion.

The Panthers coach knows stopping the 49ers on Sunday will be a much tougher task.

“All you have to do is watch the way he has played down the stretch,” Rivera said of Kaepernick. “We caught them at a good time and it turned out in our benefit.”
